Skin Care Do’s and Don’ts:
The Dollhouse Look
If you’re looking to build or even improve your skincare regimen, there are some essential things you need to consider. It’s important to know the Do’s and Don’ts when it comes to skincare. Taking care of your skin is important . It’s your body’s largest organ, and if you handle it with care, you can avoid aging wrinkles, dryness, and so much more.
It can be a bit intimidating getting into a skincare routine, especially if you’re just starting out, But with the internet today, you can learn so much, and luckily for you, I’ve spend some time searching and gathering the important do’s and don’ts in creating the most effective skincare routine.
Okay so I’m going to start off by sharing with you what NOT to do, because I think we like to jump straight to what to do instead.
DON’T:
- Don’t Use Everything All at Once, And trust me I understand the excitement of buying new skincare products. But you can’t use everything all at once, because how are truly getting the benefits of your products? You need a skincare plan, so you can plan which days you will use what products. Luckily for you, I have a weekly skincare calendar that tells you what days to do what. Check it out here: https://thedollhouselook.com/product/skincare-calendar/
- Don’t Over Exfoliate, some people make the mistake of exfoliating almost every day, which just dries out your skin and can cause irritation. Everything in moderation!
- I can’t stress this enough DON’T Touch your face and It’s much easier said than done, but try as best as you can to avoid touching your face. Spreading the bacteria from your hands to your face is just extra fuel for pimples.
- Don’t Use Harsh Scrubs too often. Most facial scrubs can be so rough on the skin that it causes tiny lacerations in the skin, therefore you should avoid them. But you know your skin — if you’re oily, you can scrub up to 4 times a week. If you have dry skin, you’ll want to stick to once a week. But either way your scrub should not feel like your using glass on your skin. And that is why I love our Exfoliating Face Scrub: (https://thedollhouselook.com/product/exfoliating-face-scrub/ ). Our scrub contains no plastic micro-beads, which are not only abrasive, but also not eco-friendly. Instead, we use sodium bicarbonate and jojoba esters that dissolve in water and break upon application providing a much gentler exfoliation for a refreshing, softer feel.
- Don’t use harsh alcohol-based toners, try to avoid them because those harsh toners are stripping the skin of moisture and can worsting whatever state your skin is in.
- Don’t use toothpaste to tame blemishes, I know I did this too, but we were actually making the matter worse. The menthol that toothpaste contains can cause itching and inflammation. During the lock down I discovered PIMPLE PATCHES!!! I’m not sure what rock I was under and how I had no clue about these little miracles. You can find them on Amazon, Walmart, Sephora and Ulta Beauty.
- DON’T POP OR PICK AT YOUR PIMPLES let them be, use the pimple patches.
- Don’t use too much moisturizer. Moisturizer is very vital for your skin, but too much can clog pores and cause breakouts, especially if it’s a heavy, thick cream. The Dollhouse Look Hydrating Moisturizer is perfect for all skin types, so light weight. https://thedollhouselook.com/product/hydrating-face-moisturizer/
- Don’t sleep with your makeup on, This is one of the worst things you can do! Sleeping with eye makeup can infect your eyes, and all-over face makeup like foundation will clog up your pores. You need to let your skin breathe. Trust me, you will Regret the day you fell asleep in your Makeup.
- Don’t Neglect the neck and chest. Your neck is actually one of the body parts that shows signs of aging first, so you want to take care of it. Exfoliate, moisturize, and wear sunscreen on your neck and chest in addition to your face.
Do’s
First thing first talk to an esthetician, they are the skin care experts who can analyze your skin, and recommend you to good products tailored to your skin.
- Drink plenty of water! H2o flushes the toxins out of your body.
- Follow the directions, each skincare product is meant to be used a certain way for best results, so make sure to follow the directions and use it how it’s intended!
- Do a Double cleanse, You may think that one wash will get every trace of dirt and makeup off your face, but that’s not the case. You really need a double cleanse to fully get everything off. Double cleansing was the best thing I added to my skincare routine.
- Get to know your Skin type. If you’re unaware of your skin type and use the wrong products, it can compromise your skin’s natural balance and result in breakouts, irritation, inflammation, and so much more.
- Do your research, There are literally thousands of skincare products out there and some of them are really good but, there are A LOT of average, or worse, harmful skincare products out there and this is why doing your research is SO important, especially when it comes to knowing what you’r putting on your skin.
- Look up the ingredients
- Get enough sleep because every single cell in your body requires sleep to repair themselves from any damage encountered during the day.
- Moisturizing is very important part in your skincare routine, doing so morning and night will ensure that your skin stays consistently hydrated.
- Wear Sunscreen every day even in the winter
- Exfoliate 1-2 times a week. It helps get rid of dead skin cells and keeps you glowing.
- Much like drinking enough water, you want to make sure you’re eating healthy. Pretty much whatever you put in your body will show on the outside! Getting enough vitamins, nutrients, and antioxidants is vital for a healthy glow.
- Change your bedding and pillow case on a regular.
- Clean your Makeup Brushes and beauty blenders
- Check products expiration date. Tip: write the date you bought it on the bottom to help you remember when to toss it!
